<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 4- LAGOS</image:title>
<image:caption>We opted for a homemade breakfast from our host. We are mutually in agreement this was the best omelette we have ever had! Today our main destination was the Benagil caves. We drove to the marina for Tartuga Tour and rented a kayak for the two of us in the morning. We kayaked to the caves and again, HAD THE PLACE TO OURSELVES! Morning is hands-down the best time to make this happen! We continued on our kayaks to other local caves which was quite beautiful. We hiked around the top rim of Benagil to experience the caves from a different perspective. We spontaneously headed to another local beach, Praia do Marinha. Finding local, uncrowded beaches seemed to be the theme of this leg of our trip. As we walked down the shoreline, past all the tourists, we were able to climb over rocks. Behind that series of rocks was a private beach to ourselves. Twas perfect. We drove to Lagos and settled into our next AirBnB. At this point we had already eaten so much cod & natas, we opted for Indian food to mix it up. We were going to walk to the beach for a sunset, but were so tired! We had some wine at home, edited photos & laid in bed. Sometimes, but rarely, we relax on vacation!</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 10- LISBON</image:title>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 1–LISBON</image:title>
<image:caption>Our flight arrived 4PM which means starting our trip low-key, an evening of acclimating, walking around Lisbon & treating ourselves to a romantic dinner. Our 1st (and urgent) destination was tasting the infamous pasteis de nata! Based on raving online reviews, we chose Mantegaria & it did not disappoint! When the egg tart hit our lips, we knew this was going to be a dangerous introduction to our lives (we had ~13 each by the end of the trip!!)</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL</image:title>
<image:caption>Evora is a city enclosed by walls which feels quite medieval. Similar to areas of Lisbon, the streets are lined with local charming storefronts and restarants. Our favorite meal of the trip was here at a restarant called “O Templo”. Their staff was hilarious and friendly. Sitting at a table here made you feel like a part of their family. The house wine was perfectly delicious and parsalane soup resulted in an out-of-body experience. The meat was orgasmic too. Considering naming our future pet “Evora” or “O Templo”. We were blown away.</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 5 - LAGOS</image:title>
<image:caption>With our past days’ successes of morning excursions, we opted to push our luck and head to Praia do Camilo bright & early. We walked from our AirBnB in flipflops. We wish we wore sneakers! It was much farther than we thought, oops! Success. Praia do Camilo was EMPTY when we arrived. We win again!</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 3 - LUZ</image:title>
<image:caption>Woke up for breakfast at Confectionary Nacional (more natas). These were our least favorite natas from the whole trip, but were very close to our home base! We then took the subway back to Lisboa Airport to pick up our rental car. Our plan was to have the rental for 4 ½ days to allow us to drive 1) along the western coast, 2) up to Evora & 3) back to Lisbon. Having the car gave us great control over this portion of our trip to do/go wherever our Portugese hearts desired. Let our road trip begin!!! Our plans for the day were limited. Once we retrieved the rental car, we only knew where we were sleeping. We had the flexibility to stop wherever peaked our interest and, boy, are we happy we did! The sun was shining with perfect 70 degree weather. As we drove through Sines, we stopped at an unforgettable beach, Porto do Covo (Praia do Salto). We were astounded with how EMPTY this GORGEOUS beach was. We nearly had paradise all to ourselves! Someone else was nude, so we joined them. We had the opportunity to embrace the beauty of nature & isolation. A rarity for us NYC folks.</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 6- LAGOS/EVORA</image:title>
<image:caption>Did you know Portugal is famous for their waves? Once we learned this, we booked our surf lesson at Raven Surf School. Our instructor, Michael, is a previous professional. He leads a small group private lesson accompanied by his badass wife. The waves were perfect to learn on & Michael was great instructor. By the end of the day, both of us were riding waves & loved the adrenaline rush that came with it. We wished we could have done this more than 1 day to improve our skills! After having some snacks in Lagos & packing up, we headed to Evora for our next road trip stop. Prior to going, we read vague, mixed reviews on Evora. We were concerned it was going to be a historical town that wouldn’t interest us. We were wrong.</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL</image:title>
<image:caption>We were saddened waking up in Evora knowing we had a mere few hours left in this magical place. To cope with our emotions, we picked up natas at “Fabrica Dos Pasteis”. These may have been our favorite natas on the entire trip. We love you, Evora! Dropped our car back off in Lisbon & headed to the train station. Off to Porto we went!</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 2 – LISBON</image:title>
<image:caption>Let the pasteis de nata adventure continue! Despite having a 10AM food tour reserved, we woke up early for breakfast adventure to Pasteis de Belem (arguably just as famous as Mantegaria). It was great to arrive at 8AM to beat the rumored long lines of tourist. We took an uber there and bus back which was quite easy from our AirBnB. We did our food tour with “Lisbon’s Best Flavors” (found on AirBnB experiences – can also be found on TripAdvisor as “Treasures of Lisboa”). This was the most memorable experience of our trip! Our tour guide, Ruthy, and her husband had an unmatchable energy and orchestrated this tour in such an impressive manner! Ruthy was deeply knowledgeable about the neighborhood’s history and brought us to memorable local spots. All spots were quite delicious and we certainly would not have found them on our own (including my favorite secret pasteis de nata spot)! We loved listening to Ruthy passionately tell us stories and educate us every step of the way. We had such a great time accompanied by her contagious positive energy and smile! We loved having this experience with a handful of other travelers. It was delightful to socialize with Ruthy and our new friends throughout the journey :)</image:caption>

<image:caption>We pitstopped for lunch at Patio Alentejano. We had cod & octopus salad – the portions were big and delicious! We ended the afternoon at our AirBnb. This was Tipi on a farm. Our host was welcoming and charming. We spent the evening drinking a bottle of wine (gifted from our host). The skies were clear & full of stars. The evening was perfect!</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 2 - LISBON</image:title>
<image:caption>The food tour brought us to the Alfama neighborhood which proved to be our favorite. We loved walking around this area. The narrow streets were so intimate and felt like such a community. This neighborhood felt like NYC’s East Village with a memorable Portuguese charm. As we walked back toward our AirBnb, we had dinner at the TimeOut Market & walked around Barrio Alto for the evening. In retrospect, both felt very touristy and we probably would have liked it better if we were younger or with a group rather than as a couple. TimeOut is a good match for a traveler who doesn’t have much time to independently explore Lisbon, as it has all local foods under one roof. Barrio Alto is a strip of bars with cheap drinks & everyone is drinking on the street. The next morning, we realized were so infatuated with Alfama we which we had dinner & drinks there instead!</image:caption>

<image:caption>We splurged for a romantic dinner at “100 Manieras” including a full Portuguese tasting menu & wine pairing. Food presentation and staff were impressive. We had a great dinner, but in retrospect it was not our favorable meal. Our AirbNb was centrally located in XXXX neighborhood which allowed us to walk to many of our areas of interest. <image:caption>It was absurdly early. We went to Goji Café for a healthy, powerfood packed breakfast. We walked around the area and had sandwiches for lunch at Croissantaria 29 (SO cheap, SO good). Now, now, this was just the start to another UNFORGETTABLE DAY. We booked “The West Coast Adventure” tour we found online to explore the Algarve. This included hiking with a group in a region inaccessible independently. This is likely the best tour we have ever been on in our lives. Our guide, TJ, was flawless. He truly made this adventure into a journey. His leadership style allowed us all to feel connected with nature’s beauty in a manner that is hard to describe. We encountered the “End of the World”, Portugal’s southernmost coastal point and soaked in the views as we silently reflected in our own unique ways. This perfect tour ended with a picnic under the stars. It was so personal and fun. We couldn’t recommend this more.</image:caption>

<image:title>PORTUGAL - DAY 8- PORTO/DOURO VALLEY</image:title>
<image:caption>Time to drink all of the Portuguese wine in the Duoro Valley! Today was wine tour day with “Oporto Road Trips”. Our guide, Lucy, was extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. We had a van with 5 other travelers. Stopped at 3 wineries and took a brief boat ride on the Douro River. Drank all types of wine, including our favorite, Port! We wished we booked the wine tour farther in advance, as our top-pick company was already booked. Had a great time regardless! Similarly, we soon realized we should have made dinner reservations in Porto as well. All of the places we picked in advanced were all booked. We went to Tasco, which was still delicious. Would recommend! We spent the evening walking along the river by our AirBnb.</image:caption>

<image:title>ICELAND - day 5 - vik/skafatell</image:title>
<image:caption>Today we did a 1.25 mile round trip, snowy, hike to "Black Falls", AKA Svartifoss. Along this hike you will pass by Hundafoss and Magnúsarfoss waterfalls as well. An easy hike overall with waterfalls galore…each with a unique personality! In the afternoon we drove to the fjords and did a short walk for these views. Brace yourself…it is quite windy! This night, we stayed at an AirBnb farmhouse with a barn full of animals and fresh milk provided by our host! We were lucky enough to experience small teaser of some more northern lights as well!</image:caption>

<image:title>ICELAND - day 6 - golden circle (attempted)</image:title>
<image:caption>The Golden Circle is an attraction for many visiting Iceland (especially those on a tight schedule) due to the many wonderous sites in a short distance from the airport Due to our action packed schedule, we only allotted part of a day here & it was unfortunately a rainy one. Due to this, we do not have any pictures or tips to share! However, we still managed to find a memorable, delicious lunch at Fridheimar, an indoor tomato farm! We had unlimited soup, breads and coffee. Perfect for a rainy day (or not rainy day)! The prices here were surprisingly affordable as well. This same day, we also made a spontaneous trip to Bruarfoss. The most magical waterfalls I will likely ever see in my life! The waterfalls contain a series of miniature falls between snow capped rocks, atop dark stone and flowing into crystal blue waters. We were lucky a local happened to be nearby when we were searching for this trailhead, otherwise we never would have found it ourselves! To top off the day, it was also my personal mission to try geyser bread. That’s right…bread baked below ground in a geyser! We made a detour to find a local bakery. It was fun to try and did not disappoint!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Feels like we somehow drove to a new planet. Where did all the snow go? The unpredictable weather surely makes everyone’s experience different. Goodbye white, hello green! <image:title>ICELAND</image:title>
<image:caption>TRIP OVERVIEW: Trip Duration: 9 Days, 8 Nights Time of Year: Fall (End of November, Beginning of December) Traveled With: The two of us & 3 college friends (1 couple & a loving 5th wheel) Highlights: Untouched nature, northern lights, winter landscapes Daily Location (Details w/ Photos Below): Day 1: Reykjavik Day 2-3: Vik Day 4: Hofn Day 5: Vik/Skafatell Day 6: Golden Circle Day 7: Snaefellas Peninsula Day 8: Snaefellas Peninsula/Reykjvaik Day 9: Reykjavik Before You Go - General Tips/Knowledge: -There is only 5-6 hours of daylight this time of year. It is critical to plan ahead & make every moment count! -Weather is quite unpredictable. Everyone who goes to Iceland for vacation has a different experience. Some experience blizzards which sent their cars off the road & require cancelling plans. Some experience rain storms. Some experience dazzling sunshine that creates sparkles in the pre-fallen snow. We were the last one. Sometimes we have good luck! -Everything is quite expensive throughout the country. We knew this in advance so we packed plenty of food and snacks from home (oatmeal, PB&J, ramen noodles, protein bars). We made a grocery run on our 1st day for any perishables (eggs, deli meat, fruit, veggies). We made the mistake of paying $27 for a sandwich and would not let that happen again! We only splurged on a handful of sit-down meals. Hotdogs were also extremely popular check out the stand in Reykjavik) + were budget friendly treats at gas stations during the road trip!! -Bring activities for the dark nighttime! We had deck of cards, karaoke mic and facemasks! -Rent a car to see the country from YOUR desired perspective. It is way cheaper to rent standard cars (not automatic). We were out of luck here. -There is one main highway that circles around the entire country (Route 1). The northern half is closed in the winter. Download apps: 112 for safety (Iceland equivalent to 911), weather apps to monitor forecast, and My Aurora Forecast & Alerts for chasing northern lights -Look up special information on getting gas. The process is different than the US! -Check out our friends’ VLOG and VIDEO for other perspectives of our trip (link pending)!! Trip Cost: Approximately ~$2,000 for flight, accommodations, rental car &excursions (meals not included)</image:caption>

<image:caption>Let the magic continue! Down Route 1 we went to the Joklasorun Glacier Lagoon. It is amazing to stare at a body of water so insanely different than the ones back home. Every step of this trip felt like we were on another planet. Our next adventure was an ice cave tour booked through “Go Ecco”. We hopped into an intense, all terrain vehicle that made us feel like we were ready for battle. This vehicle conquered miles of off-roading icy hills, crevasses and ditches to get to the ice caves. Definitely cannot access these babies by foot or with a rental! The ride was an adrenaline</image:caption>

<image:title>ICELAND - northern lights!</image:title>
<image:caption>We were ecstatic we booked 2 nights in our farmhouse AirBnB. We were super antsy to see the Northern Lights. As we were relaxing and editing late night photos in our bedrooms, our AirBnB host came eagerly running into our room shouting that it was time! The lights came! We all ran swiftly outside, like a bunch of kids on Christmas morning. The lights were beautiful, indeed. The skies were clear which allowed our viewing experience to be better than we ever dreamed of. The lights danced above the horses in the field. How magical!</image:caption>

<image:caption>Our final splurge meal was dinner at Tapas Barrin. Their tasting menu included local foods like whale, puffin, and lamb. <image:title>ICELAND - DAY 1–REYKJAVIK</image:title>
<image:caption>To maximize our Icelandic adventuring, we flew a red eye plane arriving at 7AM. We waste no time! We picked up our trusty rental car & straight to the Blue Lagoon we went (buy tickets in advance)! This time of day was perfect because it was not crowded yet. We expected this place to be overrated & swarming with tourists. We were pretty impressed & had a great time! Getting in and out of the water from the frigid cold air was quite the challenge. Totally worth it! Our AirBnB was walking distance from downtown Reykjavik. Our afternoon was spent riding Icelandic horses through lava feels with Islenski Hesturinn company. The tour group was fantastic, but man, we were NOT ready for the cold weather. Hours riding a horse in 20 degree weather called for a lot more layers than packed for this day trip. LESSON LEARNED. Dinner was the renowned hot dogs at Bæjarins Beztu hut in the middle of town. We did a Reykjavik pub crawl in the evening. In hindsight, we could have just organized it on our own. The company didn’t</image:caption>

<image:title>ICELAND - DAY 2 – VIK</image:title>
<image:caption>Let our winter wonderland road trip begin! Route 1 here we come! Today we hiked to a local, natural hot springs called Reykjadalur. This hike took several hours there & back in the snow. We needed our warmest clothes, crampons for our boots, and endurance to make this happen. The hike through the snow was beautiful with some waterfalls and (stinky) geysers along the way. The destination was a steaming, hot river with only a handful of other brave souls to share it with. Taking our clothes off to hop into the natural hot tub was painful, but as always, worth it! Bring a towel to dry off before you put your layers on. No time to get sick – this is only day 2!!! Our AirBnB the next two nights was our favorite in Iceland. It was a farm which seemed to be in the middle of no where. The couple was extremely friendly with tons of children and animals. We ate dinner with our host family (lamb from their farm) and shared incredible stories of local culture.</image:caption>

<image:title>ICELAND - DAY 3 - VIK</image:title>
<image:caption>We awakened before the sun in hopes of beating tourists to experience sunrise at Skogafoss waterfall. We succeeded! We had this massive waterfall all to ourselves for a jaw dropping view. Man, did we feel small next to this powerful natural beauty! Always a plus to not have a swarm of strangers obstructing our photo too! We had some time to kill before our afternoon activity. We stopped by a local black sand beach and ran like kids through the sand. Never had we ever before worn snow pants, winter jackets and hats to a beach before. There is definitely a first time for everything! Our afternoon activity was ice climbing and a glacier hike with “Guide to Iceland” let by “Tröll Expeditions” company. The icy blue glaciers were incredible to learn about and hike through. Ice climbing was actually quite challenging. It made us feel like White Walkers!</image:caption>

<image:title>THAILAND - DAY 3 - Chiang mai</image:title>
<image:caption>Today’s Thai adventures featured a cooking class at the Chiang Mai Thai Cooking Farm! To this day, this was one of our favorite global cooking experiences. We learned how to make several soups, curries & other local dishes. We got to pick many of our ingredients straight from the farm ourselves. Our instructor was absolutely entertaining and had us laughing the entire time!</image:caption>

<image:title>THAILAND - day 12 - krabi / Railey beach</image:title>
<image:caption>Today we booked an adventure tour package featuring: rock climbing & abseiling! Railey Beach is world renowned for its rock climbing, so we knew this was a must-do. We were not disappointed! The 1st half of our adventure included rock climbing overlooking the beach. Gorgeous. Great for beginners. Perfect weather! The 2nd half began by climbing through the inside of a cave. It was pitch dark and we climbed up, up, up using ladders & ropes to assist us. It was quite exhilirating! We were rewarded at the top with a view of the coast quite different than at sea-level. We must have been 5 stories up and it was sure a sight to soak in. The adventure had only just begun though. Now it was time to abseil down the size of the cliff with the ocean behind you. We totally loved it!</image:caption>

<image:title>ITALY (BOLOGNA & DOLOMITES) - DAY 6- seceda</image:title>
<image:caption>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX After days of back to back beauty & deeming Seiser Alm our favorite part of the Dolomites, Seceda quickly went up the rankings & earned an unexpectedly special place in our hearts. From the first few steps into the park, we were overwhelmed with a sensation that truly felt magical. The scenes’ beauty and overall environment overwhelmed us with emotions in a way that we had never experienced. We are not religious, but during our hikes here, we even contemplated if it was possible we had died & gone to heaven. The sunshine on our face with the l mountain breeze, rolling hills & mountains all around with buttercup fields throughout resulted in a perfect scene that seemingly could not even be real!</image:caption>

<image:caption>XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX The internet gave us a very clear warning this picture perfect destination is generally overwhelmed with tourists, making the opportunity to enjoy the landscapes & capture the perfect photo nearly impossible. Despite the odds against us, we decided it’s beauty was worth the the risk & arrive as early as we could! Even bright & early, there were a handful of others. We were lucky to enjoy the views in peace & capture some of its beauty to ourselves for ~20 minutes. Sure enough, the crowds rolled in quite swiftly! Glad we had a few minutes of relaxation to soak it in nonetheless :)</image:caption>

<image:title>ITALY (BOLOGNA & DOLOMITES)</image:title>
<image:caption>Trip Duration: 8 days Time of Year: Summer (End of June) Traveled With: Just the two of us! Highlights: Mountains, animal pastures, blue lakes, mountain huts & food culture Before you Go -General Tips/Knowledge: -Hiking in the Dolomites is a hidden treasure “most” Americans do not know about! It is overshadowed my Italy’s other offerings & the Swiss Alps. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed! -Basic hiking gear is a must (hiking shoes/boots, day pack & hiking sticks) -Day hikes in the Dolomites are easy to navigate without a guide. Trails are well marked, parking is accessible & many trails are suitable for beginners/intermediate hikers. -Mountain huts are accommodations only accessible by hiking. Think of a hostel in the middle of the mountains. These book months in advance, so be sure to plan way ahead! Many of the huts are accessible to stop at for food, beverage & toilets without having to stay overnight! Great perk! -Hikers are friendly and will greet you with salutations from around the world! -Driving through the Dolomites is an adventure in itself. The extremely windy, narrow roads embedded through the mountains is unlike any other driving we’ve experienced. Not to mention the # of bikers sharing the roads with you! -The sound of cowbells in the mountain meadows will be one of the most soothing memories you take with you from this trip. High-Level Itinerary: Day 1 - Bologna Day 2 - Bologna Day 3 - Lake Sorapis Day 4 - Adolf Munkel/Seiser Alm (Hike to Tierser Alpl) Day 5 - Seiser Alm (Hike back from Tierser Alpl) Day 6 - Seceda Day 7 - Lago di Braies/Tres Cimes Day 8 - Bologna/Milan Day 9 - Travel Home pending - add map Trip Cost: $1,800 (TBD)</image:caption>

<image:title>GRAND TETONS, YELLOWSTONE & GLACIER - DAY 1– jackson, wy</image:title>
<image:caption>We were blessed with a thrilling start! We knew the Jackson airport was convenient to Grand Teton National Park, but the were surprised nonetheless with how quickly nature awarded us with her beauty! Less than 1 mile drive from the airport there were cars pulled over by a field. We knew right away this meant an animal sighting! We parked the car & followed the small swarms of travelers with excitement! We were pleased to see a moose in the distance! Not too shabby for the first 15 minutes of our trip :) Having an afternoon flight, we expected a low-key start: exploring Jackson Hole for the afternoon, buying bear spray & stock up on groceries. We did all of those things, but with the adrenaline from our moose encounter we decided to optimize the daylight hours & pack in some extra adventure! We fueled up with a delicious sandwich & coffee from Cowboy Coffee & checked out some shops. We then drove to XXXXX for some scenic driving, knowing we didn’t have much time for a hike:</image:caption>

<image:caption>Trip Duration: 9 Days, 8 Nights Time of Year: Fall (Mid/Late September) Traveled With: Just the two of us! Highlights: Mountain ranges, beautiful lakes & wildlife sightings Before you Go -Some Tips/Knowledge: -This trip is VERY much a road trip & will require a car rental the whole time! See general itinerary below. -Buy the annual national parks pass! For $80, you will gain unlimited entry to these 3 parks & many others throughout the states (vs paying daily entrance fees $20-30/day) -You will need bear spray! Bears are very common in all 3 parks & hikers often encounter them in their journeys. It is like an intense pepper spray!! Bear spray cannot be taken on the plane & must be purchased locally. Pro tip - do NOT purchase in the main Jackson souvenir shops! We paid ~$60 in this store as one of our first stops upon arrival & later found them for $30-50 in so many local places (grocery stores, delis, etc). -Wildlife encounters vary for every visitor, but are extremely common :) keep your eyes peeled! -I would recommend allotting more time to Glacier, however, 1/2 the park was closed during our trip due to COVID -To save a significant amount of driving, do not book round trip flights to 1 airport. Instead, fly into Jackson Airport (JAC) & Glacier National Park airport in Kalispell (KCA). General Itinerary: Days 1-3: Jackson/Grand Tetons Days 4-6: Yellowstone Day 7: Road Trip/ Glacier Days 8-9: Glacier We would have gone biking, boating or on more excursions (alpaca farm / horseback ride) but much was closed for the season or for Covid</image:caption>

<image:caption>8 Day Trip Itinerary Trip Duration: 8 Days, 7 Nights Time of Year: Late Summer (Early September) Traveled With: Just the two of us! Trip Overview: -Budapest (2 Days) -Vienna (1 Day) -Salzburg (1 Day) -Mayrhofn/Innsbruck (2 Days) -Zill Am See (1 Day) -Salzburg/Vienna (Trip back to airport) Before you Go -General Tips/Knowledge: -Budapest & Vienna were very walkable cities, yet still quite large! To cover as much grounds as we did, we rented Lime scooters to get us quickly from point to point. -In both places, many restaurants & attractions were closed on various days per week or have unusual hours/close early (especially Sundays). Important to plan in advance! There are several things we were restricted from doing entirely due to our limited time in each city. -Can get reservations at New York Cafe in Budapest & Cafe Central in Vienna to avoid lines, especially if you go mid day! -If I were to do this again, I would do the itinerary in reverse (outdoors first, cities last)! -I would also consider flying home from Salzburg vs. Vienna to get one more full day of activities, however, we opted to leave from Vienna to save money on the rental car/flight. -For a SIM card, I recommend Magenta in Vienna (owned by T mobile) - cheaper than airport only 10 euros & very easy ! BUDAPEST: -As of 2023, there is no Uber/Lyft. Download Bolt alternative to use in advance. Very accessible & available (only 2-3 min wait each time we needed one)! AUSTRIA: -Austria is quite large & we did our best to cover several regions in such a short period of time. There is so much more to explore out West, especially epic mountain areas with multi-day hikes. Would love to make it there next time! -North of Vienna, there are a series of local “heuringers” which are wine taverns (yes, wine is served in beer mugs!) that looked quaint, local & just up our alley. We were unable to go due to limited time/store hours. Trip Cost: ~$3,000 per person* *Flight was quite expensive. We flew into Budapest & out of Vienna.</image:caption>

<image:title>US SOUTHWEST - SEDONA, GRAND CANYON, ZION, BRYCE - DAY 2 – grand canyon raft trip</image:title>
<image:caption>We chose to do the 2 day Grand Canyon rafting trip through River Runners! This was our big splurge $ for the trip. We heard amazing reviews about the 5-10 day trips, but knew we couldn’t fit that into our schedule so the 2 day was the perfect alternative for us! We wanted to experience the Grand Canyon in a unique way vs. traditional view points along the rim & boy did this trip not disappoint! The company allowed us to rent camping gear & sent us a comprehensive packing list which made the experience pretty easy too. For day 1 - We stayed overnight the night prior at the Hualapai Lodge, as it was the meeting spot for the tour at 6AM (discounts available through River Runners!). We loaded up vans to drive to the raft launch site & geared up (1 hr or so). Our total group was ~18 people including guides, 2 paddling rafts & 1 supply raft. Most of the first day was spent paddling & floating down the Colorado River. It was the perfect balance of floating & paddling to both enjoy the gorgeous river & canyon views, while also getting an exhilarating ride through the rapids. During the season we went, we hit 8.5 rapids (out scale of 10)! It was epic :) We made stops along the way for short waterfall hike, swimming, lunch, etc! We switched to the motorized raft for the last few hours of the journey. We arrived at our beach camp site & set up camp tents while the crew prepared a wonderful dinner. We were quite happy to have a fun group of fellow rafters who made the whole day fun & full of belly laughs. After hours of fun & relaxation, we patiently waited for the sun to set to experience the beautiful night sky! This was surely one of the most unforgettable parts of the trip. A clear night with a bright moon & more stars we could ever imagine embedded within view of the canyons. We even saw several shooting stars! Truly spectacular. For day 2 - We had an amazing breakfast & headed off on the motorized boat for the full day! More beautiful sites & plenty of relaxation in the sun with our new friends. When we returned, we drove to our hotel near Hoover Dam to “break up” the upcoming day’s drive to Zion. Very glad we did this! Would have loved to check out the Dam, but we were running on a tight schedule & the hikes were calling our names!</image:caption>

<image:title>US SOUTHWEST - SEDONA, GRAND CANYON, ZION, BRYCE - DAY 4&5- Zion national park So many hikes to choose from - but we chose to do Angel’s Landing & the Narrows. We were VERY happy with these choices! It is to be noted that due to the park structure & COVID protocols, we did have to plan this in advance. The Zion Park layout does not allow you to drive up to trail heads & park. Instead, you are required to take shuttles from the main Visitor Center (allot extra time for this!). Additionally, due to COVID, we were required to book a shuttle ticket in advance for a specific date & 1 hour time slot. The tickets sold out pretty fast, so check out recreation.gov for full details 1+ month in advance if you can! Day 4 - Angel’s Landing We had an early start around 7AM with ~3 hr drive Zion, including pit stop in Vegas area to pick up sandwiches for our afternoon hike! We were tracking for our 11AM shuttle bus until we realized that we were switching time zones & we lost an hour!!!! Luckily our shuttle bus ticket was from 11AM-12PM! The Visitor Center parking was also full at this time, so we parked in one of the alternate lots in Springdale ($15) & took the Springdale shuttle to the Visitor Center. Added another ~30 min or so. We took the shuttle to stop #6 The Grotto where Angel’s Landing trailhead began. The hike is a challenging one, but rewarding indeed! X miles up including some brutal switchbacks leads you to a steep rocky incline where you hold on to chains to navigate & get creative with some of your footwork! You may not want to look down during this part :) before you know it, this adventure leads you to the peak with rewarding 360 views of the park. Gorgeous!!!!! We soaked in the views for as long as we could (noting the last shuttle bus is at 6pm!) before trekking down the steep trail. Our hiking poles were quite the blessing to support our knees on the way down! Pro tip- the trail was pretty crowded the time of day we went, which made for some scary bottlenecks during the steep, narrow parts of the trail. I would recommend going early if you can! Day 2 - The Narrows For those of you who don’t know, I’ll start by saying this trail is not a traditional trail hike, but rather a hybrid hike with a significant portion of the journey trekking through the Virgin River. Yes - hiking through the water!!! With that in mind, definitely do your research on the season you are going to know expected temperatures & appropriate gear! For us in April, it was obvious we needed legitimate waterproof outfits with neoprene so we rented through Zion Outfitters in advance ($55 pp with pants, bib, shoes, neoprene socks & pole). They also have options to rent waterproof bags, which I would definitely advise for your electronics (I brought one with me so did not need to rent). It was conveniently located by the Visitor Center, making it seamless for us to pick up the gear in advance of our 7AM shuttle! It is to be noted there are 2 hiking trail options. Top Down (advanced) or Bottom Up (more intermediate/flexible lengths). We chose Bottom Up noting it would be 1 mile paved trail along the Riverwalk trail, followed by up to 3.5 miles through/along the River (popular view points in the water around the .5 mile, 1.5 miles & 3.5 mile marks - many people only go to earlier points & turn around). Our intent was the full 9 miles round trip which was perfect for us! Take the shuttle to the last stop Temple of Sinawana & let the fun begin! Some other items to note: -Definitely use the bathrooms at the trailhead since there are little to no hiding spots along this trail (especially for us ladies!) -The water is mostly ankle to knee deep, but there are several spots it was waist deep & even chest deep (my height is 5’1). During the deepest part, water got into my bib through the hole under my arm :( I personally wish I had warn a bathing suit under my gear (vs traditional hiking wear) After our ~6 hour journey, we headed to Springdale for dinner & browsing around shops. We were pleased with our takeout pizza from Pizza & Noodles!</image:title>

<image:title>US SOUTHWEST - SEDONA, GRAND CANYON, ZION, BRYCE - DAY 1–Sedona</image:title>
<image:caption>As our flight got in late the night prior, we took it pretty easy our first day (for our standards :))! With so many amazing local hikes to choose from, it was easy to find a trail that suited our fancy! We chose to do Devil’s Bridge hike due to its length of XX miles which was perfect for our easy going afternoon. It took us xx hours to hike. We parked at xx alternate spot to avoid the potential parking madness at the Devil’s Bridge parking lot (we read there was limited space & knew we were short on time). This added 1 extra mile or so to our hike - relatively flat & low traffic area so we didn’t mind! The hike was beautiful through the red rock scenery. When we got to the Devil’s Bridge itself there was a long line to take pictures (~30-45 min). This reminded us why we usually wake up early to beat the crowds! Worth it nonetheless. Views were awesome! We ended the day in Sedona late afternoon, as we had a 2 hour drive to Peach Springs for our rafting trip the next day with an early start.</image:caption>
